Privacy Policy

Last updated: 30 October 2026

MyFileBuddy is built so that there is almost nothing to describe here: your files are processed inside your own browser and never reach us. This page spells out that promise, and then lists honestly the few things that do leave your device, because a privacy policy that says 'nothing happens' and isn't true is worse than no policy at all.

1. The short version

  • Your files are never uploaded — they are read and processed in your browser, on your device
  • No account, so no name, email address or password is collected or stored
  • No cookies are set by MyFileBuddy
  • No analytics, tracking pixels, or advertising scripts run on the site
  • Nothing is written to your device's local storage or session storage by the tools

2. What happens to a file you drop on the site

When you choose or drop a file, your browser hands the bytes to a JavaScript program that runs on your own machine. That program converts, signs, reads or scans them, then offers you the result as a download. The bytes live only in your browser's memory and in the download you save.

We never see them. There is no upload request, no storage bucket, no queue and no log containing your document. Close the tab and the working copy is gone — which also means we cannot recover a file for you. Nothing here applies to files you deliberately save with your browser's own download history or your operating system.

3. What we do not collect

MyFileBuddy does not collect, receive, buy or sell:

  • identifiers such as your name, email address, phone number or address
  • the contents, names, or sizes of the files you process
  • your browsing behaviour, page history, or a profile of your interests
  • cookies, local storage entries, session storage entries, or fingerprinting data
  • data from any advertising or marketing network

4. The external requests that do happen

For the sake of honesty, these are the requests your browser makes because of this site:

  • Web fonts — the site loads two typefaces from Google Fonts, so your browser contacts Google and Google sees your IP address along with the page being requested. If that matters to you, use the site with a font-blocking extension or strict tracking protection.
  • The donation link — clicking a support button takes you to a third-party donation page, which has its own privacy policy and may set its own cookies. Nothing is passed from MyFileBuddy to them.
  • The "Ask AI which format" tab — only if you use it, the text description you type and the format you pick are sent through our server to an AI model provider to generate a suggestion. No file is ever sent, and we do not store the description. Don't type personal or confidential details into it.
  • Hosting — the site is served by a hosting provider that keeps standard technical server logs (IP address, browser type, requested page, timestamp) for security and delivery. We add no tracking of our own on top of that.

The OCR engine, its language data and the PDF libraries are all served from this site rather than from a third-party service, so recognising a document does not send it anywhere.

5. Children

The site is not directed at children under 13, and no one under 13 should submit personal information. If a parent or guardian believes a child has sent us something, write to us and we will delete it — though in practice there is nothing stored to delete.

6. Your rights — Europe, the UK, the US and beyond

Short version: whatever privacy rights your country's law gives you, you can use them here — and because the site holds no record about you, most requests will simply be confirmed as "nothing held".

European Union, United Kingdom and Switzerland (GDPR and UK GDPR): you have the rights of access, correction, deletion, restriction, portability and objection, and the right to complain to your local data-protection authority. MyFileBuddy collects no personal data of its own, so there is normally nothing to access, correct or delete — but you may ask, and we will answer honestly within 30 days. The only processing that touches you is the hosting provider's standard server logs and the Google Fonts request described in section 4, each of which is governed by that provider's own policy.

United States (including California's CCPA/CPRA and similar state laws): you have the right to know what personal information is collected, to have it deleted, and to opt out of its sale or sharing. MyFileBuddy collects no personal information, sells none, shares none, and runs no advertising or cross-context behavioural advertising, so there is nothing to opt out of — but you may still ask, and we will confirm.

Everywhere else: where your local privacy law gives you rights of access, correction, deletion, portability or objection, you can use them at any time by writing to hello@myfilebuddy.app. Requests are answered within 30 days.

7. Security

The strongest protection here is architectural: data that never leaves your device cannot be breached on our side. Beyond that, the site is served over HTTPS, we keep dependencies patched, and the tools ask your browser for a file only when you explicitly pick one. You remain responsible for the security of your own device and browser.

8. Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the "last updated" date at the top changes with it, and material changes will be pointed out on the site itself. Continuing to use MyFileBuddy after an update means you accept the revised policy.

9. Contact

Questions about privacy, or anything else on this site: hello@myfilebuddy.app.
