Terms & Conditions
Last updated: 30 October 2026
MyFileBuddy is a free set of file tools that run entirely inside your web browser. These terms explain what the tools can and can't do, what you're responsible for, and the limits of our liability. They are written in plain language on purpose — the short version is at the top of each section.
1. Using the site
Short version: use it free, no account needed, and these terms apply as soon as you start.
MyFileBuddy is provided free of charge, with no sign-up, no subscription and no ads. By opening the site or using any of its tools you accept these terms. If you don't agree with them, please don't use the site.
You confirm that you are old enough to use the site under the law where you live, and that you will use it only for lawful purposes.
2. What the tools actually do
Short version: everything runs on your device; we never receive your files.
The site offers five groups of tools, all of which run locally in your browser:
- Convert files — spreadsheets (XLSX, XLS, ODS), CSV, JSON, PDF, Word (DOCX), plain text, HTML, and images (PNG, JPG, WEBP, GIF, BMP) between each other
- PDF tools — merge, split, extract or remove pages, rotate, compress, watermark, add page numbers, turn PDFs into JPG/PNG or PowerPoint, and turn images into a PDF
- OCR / scan to text — read printed English text out of photos and scanned pages
- PDF signer — draw or type a signature and place it on any page
- QR codes — create downloadable QR codes and read QR codes out of an image
Your files are read into your browser's memory and processed there. They are not uploaded to us, not stored on any server we control, and not visible to anyone but you. When a conversion finishes, the result is handed straight back to you as a download.
3. What the tools do not do — read this before you rely on a result
Short version: output is rebuilt from the words and numbers, not copied pixel for pixel from your original.
Because the free, in-browser mode has no server-side conversion engine, some things genuinely cannot be preserved. This is not a bug to be fixed later; it is how the tool is built.
- Designed layouts — fonts, colours, columns, exact spacing and positioning are rebuilt as a simple text or table flow, not reproduced exactly
- Images inside PDFs — photos, charts, logos and scanned artwork embedded in a PDF are not extracted; the browser mode reads text only
- PDF to Word or Excel — you get the words and tables, not the original layout
- PDF to PowerPoint — each page becomes a picture on a slide, so the text on it can't be edited
- OCR — printed English only; handwriting, other languages, crooked scans and complex tables often need manual corrections
- Excel extras — formulas, macros, charts, pivot tables and conditional formatting come across as their values only
- Unsupported inputs — legacy .doc files, password-protected or encrypted files, PowerPoint as a source file, and CAD formats such as .dwg or .dxf
Always open a converted file and check it against the original before you send it anywhere, and keep your original until you're happy with the result.
4. Your files and your content
Short version: what you process stays yours; you are responsible for what you process.
You keep every right to the files you bring to the site. Since we never receive them, we claim nothing over them and cannot recover them — if you close the tab before downloading a result, it is gone and there is no copy on our side to restore.
Only process material you have the right to use. Don't use the tools on other people's confidential documents, licensed material, or personal data you have no basis to handle.
5. No warranty
Short version: the tools are offered "as is", with no promise they'll suit any particular purpose.
MyFileBuddy is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranty of any kind, to the fullest extent the law allows. We don't warrant that any conversion will be accurate, complete, formatted correctly, or fit for a particular use. Don't rely on a converted or recognised file for legal, financial, medical, official, academic or government purposes without verifying it yourself against the source.
6. Donations
Short version: contributions are voluntary gifts, not payments for a product or service.
The site is funded by optional user contributions. Giving one buys nothing: no account, no extra features, no priority, no longer uptime, and no subscription. Donations are not refundable except where the law of the payment provider requires it, and they are not tax-deductible unless your own local rules say otherwise — check with your own tax adviser.
7. Fair use of the site itself
You agree not to:
- use the tools for anything unlawful, harmful, deceptive or infringing
- attack, overload, scrape or reverse-engineer the site, or try to break its protections
- impersonate MyFileBuddy, claim the tools as your own product, or present them as a paid service
- rehost the site in a way that misleads people about where the files are processed
The site may be paused, changed or withdrawn at any time, and tools may be added, altered or removed. There is no uptime guarantee — it is a free tool, not a service you are paying for.
8. Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, MyFileBuddy and its author are not liable for any loss of data, lost profits, business interruption, or any indirect, special or consequential loss arising from your use of the site or from a file produced by it. You use the tools entirely at your own risk, on your own device, with your own backups.
9. International use — Europe, the United States and everywhere else
Short version: these terms are written to apply worldwide, and they never take away a right your local law gives you.
MyFileBuddy is offered to visitors in every country. Wherever you use it from, the same terms apply, with one important rule: nothing in these terms limits or removes a right you have under the law of the place where you live. If a part of these terms conflicts with a mandatory consumer-protection, data-protection or liability rule that applies to you — for example the consumer laws of the European Union or the United Kingdom, or the laws of your US state — that local rule wins, and the rest of these terms still stands.
In particular, for visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland: the "no warranty" and "liability" sections above apply only to the extent your local law permits them to, and they do not affect your statutory rights. For visitors in the United States: some states do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties or the limitation of liability for certain damages, so parts of those sections may not apply to you.
You are responsible for using the tools in line with the laws of your own country, including export-control and sanctions rules where they apply.
10. Governing law and disputes
Because MyFileBuddy has no company office, these terms are governed by the laws of India, where its author is based, and disputes are subject to the courts of Kolkata, West Bengal — but only to the extent the law where you live allows that. If you are a consumer in the European Union, the United Kingdom or elsewhere, you keep the right to bring a claim in the courts of your own country where your local law gives you that right, and nothing here forces you to give it up. If any part of these terms turns out to be unenforceable, the rest still stands.
11. Changes and contact
We may update these terms; the "last updated" date above shows the current version, and continuing to use the site after a change means you accept it. Questions, corrections or takedown requests: hello@myfilebuddy.app.
